Time to address the elephant in the room "mental health".
Statistics show that 1 in every 5 individuals suffers from some form of mental health illness symptoms. 50% of mental health conditions begin by age 14 and 75% of mental health conditions develop by age 24. Suicide has emerged as the fourth leading cause of death among adolescents aged 15–19 in India.
Close to 60 to 70 million people in India suffer from common and severe mental disorders. It is alarming to know that India is the world's suicide capital with over 2.6 lakh cases of suicide a year. Statistics released by the World Health Organization say the average suicide rate in India is 10.9 for every lakh people. And behind each one of these is a sad story of an unheard child, friend and family, imagine the suffering they have to go through.
Now to work on this silent pandemic wedidit an NGO is going to file a PIL in the supreme court of India to make mental health education a required subject in schools, starting from the first grade. By doing so, we can raise a generation that is emotionally intelligent, resilient, and equipped to face life’s challenges with confidence. Mental health plays a crucial role in shaping a child’s overall development, just as physical health does.
And joining this movement can play a crucial role in creating a generation that's going to be confident, kind and emotionally intelligent.
We have gathered 1 million signs in 100 days to present this PIL in court. Together we can break the stigma and bring the needed change.
You just have to click the link below to sign the petition, share it with your family, friends and everyone you know and, together, we can make sure that no one is left alone, unheard, to suffer in silence, forced to take such drastic steps.
